Teen tried to stab policeman to death, Dubai court hears

Dubai // A teenager has been accused of trying to kill a policeman by stabbing him repeatedly to the chest, back and abdomen after the officer tried to break up a fight.

H A, 20, was at a mobile phone shop in the Al Baraha when K A and three others entered, he told the Dubai Criminal Court on Sunday.

“He started fighting with one of the three friends so I tried to break up the fight,” the policeman said.

He said the defendant, 19, pulled a knife, followed him out of the shop and stabbed him in the back.

While the other three ran off, the defendant followed the officer into an alley and stabbed him again, the policeman said.

He escaped and called for assistance, and was taken to Rashid Hospital.

The defendant was not in court to enter a plea and the next hearing has been set for December 18.

The officer has also been referred to the Misdemeanours Court on unspecified charges.
