DUBAI // Public support for the emirate’s bid to host Expo 2020 is “very strong”, a study reveals.

Emiratis, expatriates and nationals living overseas were asked for their opinion for a survey by the Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC).

The results will be published before the final vote in Paris on November 27 by the BIE (Bureau International des Expositions), the organising committee of the Expo 2020.

The online survey, in Arabic and English, launched last week on Facebook, Twitter and through radio campaigns. It ends this week.

“We are keeping track of the responses and it has been very good, very strong,” said Noora Al Hajji, the head of the statistics centre’s opinion poll section.

“It is an initiative started by DSC to measure the positive response in the community.

“We are focusing on locals and expatriates, on the entire community. There are people from Dubai, from all over the UAE and all over the world who have participated.

“Heads of Government and federal entities have also taken part in the survey and passed the message to others.”

The survey is part of the centre’s We Deserve It campaign, which highlights Dubai’s readiness to host the world fair.

“This aims to show the world that Dubai is capable and welcoming of the expo,” Ms Al Hajji said.

“We are qualified to host it and deserve to win it and the survey will also show the acceptance and readiness of people.”

The centre provides data and statistics about Dubai and conducts surveys on everything from manufacturing to health, education and labour.

Earlier surveys have tracked population growth, tourist arrivals and telecommunication usage.
