DUBAI // Two Sudanese students sentenced to six months behind bars for having consensual sex with a woman have had their jail terms halved by the Dubai Court of Appeal.
H F, 19, and H A, 23, were initially charged by the Dubai Criminal Court with kidnapping a 22-year-old Emirati woman and threatening her before taking turns to rape her on a dark street in Jumeirah.
They both denied all of the charges and told judges the woman went out with them after agreeing to have sex in return for money, but when they did not have enough cash to pay, she claimed she had been raped.
The Criminal Court ruled out the rape charge after evidence confirmed the sex was consensual and sentenced the students to six months in jail each. They appealed and their sentences were reduced to three months.
Both men will be deported after serving their jail terms.
