ABU DHABI // Mosques named after the founding President, Sheikh Zayed, are to be built in China and Cambodia.
The Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has given its full support for the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in commemoration of Emirates Humanitarian Work Day tomorrow, which is dedicated to the memory of the late President.
"The Foundation continues to harbour the sentiments of our great leader, Sheikh Zayed, whose legacy is a shining light, an inspiration to our work throughout the world and drives our ambition to continue in his footsteps," said Mohammed Haji Al Khoori, director general of the foundation.
"We consider the building of this mosque as a dedication to his selflessness and benevolent nature, one that will always be immortal to us, and now to the people of the Republic of China."
The mosque will be built in the city of Wuzhong, Ningxia province, and hold more than 1,000 worshippers.
It will have a prayer hall, ablutions, toilets and an imam's residence.
Wuzhong is home to a large Muslim population, the foundation said. The mosque is designed to be a meeting ground for people to discuss religious and scientific views.
The project aims to help strengthen bonds between Muslims and non-Muslims, educating all irrespective of faith and background.
The initiative is backed by the UAE Government.
Also in a celebration of UAE Humanitarian Work Day and the memory of Sheikh Zayed, the Dubai Charity Association has announced it will build a mosque in Cambodia.
It will accommodate 500 worshippers and should be completed in a year, the association's secretary general, Ahmed Mesmar, told the state news agency Wam.

Yemen's Bahais and the charges they often face
The Baha'i faith was made known in Yemen in the 19th century, first introduced by an Iranian man named Ali Muhammad Al Shirazi, considered the Herald of the Baha'i faith in 1844.
The Baha'i faith has had a growing number of followers in recent years despite persecution in Yemen and Iran.
Today, some 2,000 Baha'is reside in Yemen, according to Insaf.
"The 24 defendants represented by the House of Justice, which has intelligence outfits from the uS and the UK working to carry out an espionage scheme in Yemen under the guise of religion.. aimed to impant and found the Bahai sect on Yemeni soil by bringing foreign Bahais from abroad and homing them in Yemen," the charge sheet said.
Baha'Ullah, the founder of the Bahai faith, was exiled by the Ottoman Empire in 1868 from Iran to what is now Israel. Now, the Bahai faith's highest governing body, known as the Universal House of Justice, is based in the Israeli city of Haifa, which the Bahais turn towards during prayer.
The Houthis cite this as collective "evidence" of Bahai "links" to Israel - which the Houthis consider their enemy.
