Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed honours members of the UAE Armed Forces

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday awarded several members of the UAE Armed Forces with a Medal of Bravery for their heroic actions in "Operation Restoring Hope" in Yemen.

In an event at the Sea Palace in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed saluted them for their service to the nation and people and "their heroic and honourable actions, which reflect their gallantry, dedication and spirit of sacrifice", Wam reported.

Recipients of the medal include Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Ali Rashid Saif Al Ghaithi; Mohammed Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi; Musa Ali Yousif bin Huwaidin; Humaid Rashid Saeed Al Zaabi; Abdul Rahman Mohammed Ibrahim Al Hammadi; Mohammed Rashid Mohammed Al Sareedi and Ahmed Majid Saeed Al Nuaimi.

The UAE is part of the Saudi-led Coalition supporting the international recognised government in Yemen, in its fight against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

What sanctions would be reimposed?

Under ‘snapback’, measures imposed on Iran by the UN Security Council in six resolutions would be restored, including:

  • An arms embargo
  • A ban on uranium enrichment and reprocessing
  • A ban on launches and other activities with ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons, as well as ballistic missile technology transfer and technical assistance
  • A targeted global asset freeze and travel ban on Iranian individuals and entities
  • Authorisation for countries to inspect Iran Air Cargo and Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines cargoes for banned goods
