Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, on Saturday attended the opening of a new military base in north-west Egypt ahead of celebrations for the country's Revolution Day, the UAE's state news agency reported.
Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed was among a number of high-profile Arab delegations to attend the ceremony at the Mohamed Naguib Military Base, located in the coastal Al Hamam area of Marsa Matruh Governorate, Wam said.
Students from several military colleges and institutions were graduating at the event.
Upon his arrival, Sheikh Mohammed was received by Egyptian president Abdel Fattah El Sisi, and Egyptian defence and military production minister Sedki Sobhy, along with a number of other Egyptian ministers and senior military commanders.
Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, Deputy Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, also attended the event.
Among the other Arab delegations were representatives from other Gulf countries, including Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the crown prince of Bahrain, Prince Khalid Al Faisal, governor of Saudi Arabia's Mecca province, and Sheikh Mohammad Al Khaled, Kuwait's deputy prime minister and minister of defence.
At the beginning of the ceremony, a guard of honour was presented to dignitaries and the Egyptian national anthem was played, Wam said.
Egypt's Revolution Day, which falls on July 23, marks the 1952 military coup that led to the end of the monarchy and the establishment of an independent republic.

The smuggler
Eldarir had arrived at JFK in January 2020 with three suitcases, containing goods he valued at $300, when he was directed to a search area.
Officers found 41 gold artefacts among the bags, including amulets from a funerary set which prepared the deceased for the afterlife.
Also found was a cartouche of a Ptolemaic king on a relief that was originally part of a royal building or temple.
The largest single group of items found in Eldarir’s cases were 400 shabtis, or figurines.
Khouli conviction
Khouli smuggled items into the US by making false declarations to customs about the country of origin and value of the items.
According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he provided “false provenances which stated that [two] Egyptian antiquities were part of a collection assembled by Khouli's father in Israel in the 1960s” when in fact “Khouli acquired the Egyptian antiquities from other dealers”.
He was sentenced to one year of probation, six months of home confinement and 200 hours of community service in 2012 after admitting buying and smuggling Egyptian antiquities, including coffins, funerary boats and limestone figures.

A number of other items said to come from the collection of Ezeldeen Taha Eldarir are currently or recently for sale.
Their provenance is described in near identical terms as the British Museum shabti: bought from Salahaddin Sirmali, "authenticated and appraised" by Hossen Rashed, then imported to the US in 1948.

Conflict, drought, famine
Estimates of the number of deaths caused by the famine range from 400,000 to 1 million, according to a document prepared for the UK House of Lords in 2024.
It has been claimed that the policies of the Ethiopian government, which took control after deposing Emperor Haile Selassie in a military-led revolution in 1974, contributed to the scale of the famine.
Dr Miriam Bradley, senior lecturer in humanitarian studies at the University of Manchester, has argued that, by the early 1980s, “several government policies combined to cause, rather than prevent, a famine which lasted from 1983 to 1985. Mengistu’s government imposed Stalinist-model agricultural policies involving forced collectivisation and villagisation [relocation of communities into planned villages].
The West became aware of the catastrophe through a series of BBC News reports by journalist Michael Buerk in October 1984 describing a “biblical famine” and containing graphic images of thousands of people, including children, facing starvation.
Band Aid
Bob Geldof, singer with the Irish rock group The Boomtown Rats, formed Band Aid in response to the horrific images shown in the news broadcasts.
With Midge Ure of the band Ultravox, he wrote the hit charity single Do They Know it’s Christmas in December 1984, featuring a string of high-profile musicians.
Following the single’s success, the idea to stage a rock concert evolved.
Live Aid was a series of simultaneous concerts that took place at Wembley Stadium in London, John F Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, the US, and at various other venues across the world.
The combined event was broadcast to an estimated worldwide audience of 1.5 billion.
