Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid casts his eye over Ain Dubai - in pictures

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid on Monday visited Bluewaters Island, the Dh8 billion man-made island being built off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residence and is expected to become a world-renowned tourism hotspot.

The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai was walked through the progress of the project, which includes residential, retail, dining and entertainment facilities as well as the world's tallest observation wheel and the highest rope-climbing platform.

The development is part of plans to enhance Dubai’s profile as a global tourism hub in line with the Dubai Tourism Vision 2020.

“Creating a conducive environment for tourism and investment is key to the diversification of our economy. Equally important is having clear business plans and strategies to efficiently deal with changes taking place around us,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

“We want our country to be known as a land of happiness and hope for both people and visitors, and for all those who have ambitions and dreams.

“The projects we see around us today reflect this vision as well as our determination to achieve the highest levels of excellence.”

The Dubai Ruler also said ongoing projects will help create thousands of jobs and offer opportunities for the youth to contribute towards building the future of the nation.

Sheikh Mohammed was briefed during his visit on the various phases of the projects that have been developed over the past four years, which have provided employment to over 16,000 people.

Developer Meraas is working with over 1,500 local and international companies to bring the destination to life.

The centrepiece of the project is Ain Dubai, the world’s largest and tallest observation wheel that offers 360-degree views of the Dubai coast and stands at over 210-metres tall.

Ain Dubai will also feature the world’s highest rope-climbing platform with a height of over 150 metres.

The island’s hotels promise a luxury experience and also offer serviced apartments, and there are 10 apartment buildings offering 700 residencies.

Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied on the visit by President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and CEO and Chairman of Emirates Group, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed; Director General of His Highness The Ruler's Court, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani; Chairman of Emaar Properties, Mohammed Ali Al Abbar; and Director General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality in Dubai, Khalifa Saeed Suleiman.
