Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, visited the International Defence Exhibition and Conference on its penultimate day on Wednesday.
At the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Sheikh Mohamed visited the pavilions for participating companies and was briefed on the latest Arab and foreign military and defence systems, products and solutions.
He spoke with exhibitors and participants about the significance of such events in promoting their businesses and shedding light on the latest defence products.
Sheikh Mohamed was accompanied by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad, chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports, and Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Court of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince.
On Wednesday, the UAE Armed Forces signed deals worth Dh2.14 billion ($583 million) with local companies winning most of the contracts for defence equipment.
The Armed Forces, which signed 24 contracts in total, awarded 18 contracts valued at Dh1.42bn to local companies, said Staff Brig Gen Mohammed Al Hassani, official spokesman for Idex and the Naval Defence and Maritime Security Exhibition.
International companies won six contracts, worth Dh720m.
The largest contract was a Dh485m deal with UAE-based International Golden Group.
