Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, said an online meeting of the Joint UAE-Bahrain Committee was convened "under exceptional circumstances" on Sunday.

Sheikh Abdullah chaired the 9th session of the committee with Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani, Bahrain's Foreign Minister.

During the meeting, the UAE minister said non-oil trade between the two countries had grown from $4.6 billion in 2017 to $7.8bn in 2019 and noted there were opportunities for further collaboration.

"We are looking forward to fostering co-operation across various strategic sectors, primarily, health, technology, AI and renewable energy," Sheikh Abdullah said.

He said the relevant authorities were also looking at increasing the frequency of flights between the two nations.

"There are several opportunities up for grab for us to come closer during the coronavirus crisis," Sheikh Abdullah said.

The two ministers signed agreements on import and export control, media and wildlife during the session.

Also present were: Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan, the UAE ambassador to Bahrain; Ahmed Al Sayegh, Minister of State; and Abdul Nasser Al Shaali, assistant minister for economic and trade affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation.
