Coronavirus: All Ramadan tent permits in Dubai cancelled as stay-home measures continue

All permits for Ramadan tents in Dubai have been cancelled this year in line with nationwide efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai also said that it was "strictly forbidden" for residents to bring meals to break fast in mosque courtyards.

The announcement was made to prevent large gatherings that break the current social distancing rules which are in place during the pandemic.

During the holy month, it is common for mosques to host social gatherings for workers to dine during Iftar.

However, these new instructions have been put in place to protect public health and safety.

A number of organisations across the city will be delivering meals to individuals and families in need throughout Ramadan.

Those wishing to volunteer in the food distribution drive have been advised to contact charities and institutions approved and licensed by the IACAD.

Muhammad Musabeh Dahi, director of the charitable institutions department, said it would continue to reach out to people that need help during the Holy Month, via its Meals of Hope initiative.

While the usual community gatherings were not permitted, he said staff and volunteers providing assistance to residents would follow the strictest precautionary measures.
