DUBAI // Salman Khan reported to the Indian consulate on Thursday after arriving in the UAE for an awards ceremony.
“It was good meeting with wonderful people at the Indian embassy in Dubai,” the actor wrote on Twitter at about 3pm.
Bombay high court had set the condition that Khan check in with the Indian consulate upon arrival in Dubai, after granting him permission to leave India while he awaits an appeal on a conviction for culpable homicide. He also had to pay 200,000 rupees in bail – about Dh11,500 – to ensure his return.
Embassy officials were unable to provide details about Khan’s arrival.
Khan is due to perform for the Arab-Indo Bollywood Awards at Meydan Racecourse on Friday in his first overseas appearance since he was sentenced this month to five years in jail for the hit-and-run death of a homeless man in Mumbai in 2002.
Despite speculation, he did not participate in a press conference for the awards.
Khan’s brother Arbaaz is on the awards jury but was also absent from the press conference.
Organisers of the awards have defended the star, saying that Dubai’s people are “great fans” of Khan.
