Salesman jailed for threatening to kill ex-fiancée if she didn’t marry him

DUBAI // A salesman who threatened to kill his ex-fiancée and show her parents a video of them having sex if she did not marry him has been sentenced to three months in jail.

The 32-year-old from Lebanon was convicted of issuing threats by Dubai Criminal Court.

The defendant was engaged to the Iranian victim, 27, for three years before they broke up after she discovered he was already married with children.

She told police she had helped him financially before she found out he had a family. When she left him, he started sending threatening texts and would call asking her to marry him.

“When I refused, he told me he has a recording of us having sex and he would send it to my family if I didn’t marry him. I had no idea he made such a recording,” said the woman.

The defendant denied the charges in court in April 2015. The case was repeatedly rescheduled to summon him as he continually failed to show up for hearings to face charges.

The defendant and his ex-fiancée were referred to Dubai Misdemeanours Court for having sex outside of wedlock.

He will be deported after serving his prison term.
