ABU DHABI // Children have been urged to report their parents to police if they see them quarrelling, fighting or abusing alcohol.
"Children can report to us through the toll-free numbers and we will divert them to the relevant department, which will reach out to them to help and resolve the issue," said Abdullah Bo Al Showarb, the first assistant of community police in Abu Dhabi.
He also urged parents to avoid abusive behaviour in the first place and to report any violent incidents involving their children.
"If the child is subjected to violence in the streets, school or home, do not hesitate to call the social support centre or the nearest police station," he said.
Mr Al Showarb's advice came as he attended the National Exhibition for Social Awareness and Humanitarian Services at Adnec, where he addressed students from the emirate's schools and universities.
The exhibition, which aims to strengthen social cohesion by putting government bodies and private companies in direct contact with young people, also heard from humanitarian groups.
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, the Deputy Prime Minister, also attended the exhibition, which ends today.
