ABU DHABI // Hundreds of pupils across the country are preparing to do battle for a spot in the national finals of this year’s World Robot Olympiad.
District competitions began in the capital yesterday and will see almost 1,500 public and private-school pupils compete in 379 teams to win one of 18 spots at the national finals.
The finals will be held at the Fairmont hotel in Abu Dhabi on May 30 and 31.
The competition is hosted in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Education Council and the finals will have three events – regular, open and football challenges.
The top three teams in the under-13, under-16 and under-20 groups will compete in the Regular category on May 30.
The best five across all age groups will be selected in the open category and the best four in the football challenge on May 31.
The winners will compete in the international World Robot Olympiad in Indonesia in November. This year’s theme is “World Heritage”.
Qualifying will be held at the Adec school in Al Marfa on May 27; at the Abu Dhabi Centres for Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Dubai, Ajman and Fujairah on May 25; and at the centre in Ras Al Khaimah and Al Nokhba School in Al Marfa on May 29.

Labour dispute
