Prosecutors have lost their appeal for a tougher sentence against a blacksmith who attacked his roommate in a fit of rage.
The Indian national, 36, repeatedly stabbed the victim in the stomach after being accidentally locked out of his bedroom in September last year.
Believing his roommate had shut the door deliberately, he later attacked him with a knife.
At a subsequent trial, he denied a charge of attempted murder but admitted to drinking alcohol. He was sentenced to two years in jail.
"His loud banging on the door woke us all up," said the roommate, who recovered from his wounds.
“I opened it for him and found him furious. I told him I was really sorry and I didn’t know he was locked out.”
On Monday, a hearing at the Dubai Court of Appeal upheld the man's prison term. He was ordered deported after completing his sentence.
