DUBAI // Two detainees who set fire to their mattresses at the Ports police detention center were yesterday sentenced to six months in prison each. MO and EA, both 19-year-old Emiratis, will be referred to the Court of Misdemeanours on a separate charge of endangering the lives of others.
Both men were originally arrested on charges of drug consumption. While under arrest, they set fire to the mattresses on December 19, 2010, causing Dh130 worth of damage.
A Dubai police major said he had tried to put the fire out but the two men assaulted him. Another police officer said he saw EA holding the lighter and standing next to the burning mattresses.
