SHARJAH // Police have arrested a driver they allege killed a motorcyclist in a traffic accident, before fleeing the scene to avoid paying blood money. Police said the man, a Pakistani, was driving a pickup lorry in the Sajja area of Sharjah at about 7.25pm on Sunday when he hit the motorcyclist, Mohammed Ali Nadar, 28, an Afghan. They said Mr Nadar overtook the pickup, then apparently slowed and was hit from behind by the driver, who police have named only as Tarsim, 47.
A police official, who declined to be named, said the driver approached the victim and said "Brother" in Urdu, but fled when there was no response. Witnesses reportedly recorded the man's number plate. A police official urged all drivers to remain at the scene if involved in an accident. ykakande@thenational.ae
