Police commit to get fit and sign up to 30 day challenge

Police in Dubai are the latest government organisation to commit to a month long get fit scheme that will launch in the city in October.

Officers have already signed up to the Dubai Fitness Challenge that begins on October 20 with a series of free fitness events around the emirate to encourage healthy living.

Senior representatives from more than 45 Government offices have been briefed on the challenge of taking part in at least 30 minutes of exercise, for 30 consecutive days.

The city-wide fitness movement will begin with a free carnival of activities at Safa Park on October 20-21, with celebrity guests and motivational health experts in a bid to improve the nation’s health.

“We want everyone to join this inclusive initiative, from those who have never exercised to those that are fitness enthusiasts, from the young to the old and the people of determination,” said Helal Saeed Almarri, director general of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

“We want the entire community involved, including schools, businesses and government organisations across Dubai. It’s the perfect trigger to make a positive change to one’s life.”

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai has called on the public sector to support their employees to participating through simple actions like time allocated for exercise.

He followed up on Twitter and Instagram by challenging the Dubai Police to sign up and take on the month long challenge.

Those taking part can monitor their progress via a mobile phone app, and find out about hundreds of free events planned across Dubai.
