DUBAI// A man has been jailed for six months for installing hidden cameras in the bathroom and bedroom of his flatmates to spy on them as they showered and got dressed.
M L, 34, a Filipina, said she arrived to her apartment last September to find that her roommate was concerned after an unidentified object in their bathroom.
“She showed me the device, which was hidden in a hanger placed on the bathroom door. I opened it and found out it was a camera, “ said M L.
The women took the device, as well as two laptops owned by the defendant, J R, 37, to the police, who found footage of other women on the computers.
During questioning, J R confessed to recording footage of his flatmates.
“I installed a hidden camera in M L’s bedroom while she was taking a shower, so that I could watch them getting dressed,” he said.
At Dubai Criminal Court last June, J R was charged with sexual assault of two women, M L and L A M, as well as sexual assault of other unidentified women.
He will be deported after serving his jail term.

How to apply for a drone permit
- Individuals must register on UAE Drone app or website using their UAE Pass
- Add all their personal details, including name, nationality, passport number, Emiratis ID, email and phone number
- Upload the training certificate from a centre accredited by the GCAA
