Parents welcome first babies on UAE's 47th National Day

Doctors and parents have welcomed some special new additions to the UAE as news emerged of the first babies born on the 47th National Day.

Baby Khalifa was the first to be born at Burjeel Royal Hospital in Al Ain, arriving on the stroke of midnight on Sunday, December 2.

His proud Emirati parents Mohammed Abdullah Al Hurr, 45, and Shamma Hamad Al Ketbi, 41, welcomed him to the world on what they said was going to be a very special day ahead.

“We believe that UAE National Day 2018 will be a lucky day for us, and it has certainly started on the best note possible,” said Mr Al Hurr.

“The medical and nursing staff have been fantastic, and we would like to thank them for safely delivering our precious gift.”

In Sharjah, Amira became the third child of Abdul Rahim Mohammed Al Hammadi, arriving 10 days ahead of schedule to make it in time for the National Day celebrations.

Weighing 2.44kg (5.6 lbs), Amira’s mum Alia Al Ali elected for a caesarean section to ensure the new addition arrived on December 2, a few minutes after midnight at Zahra Hospital, Sharjah.

Also at Al Zahra hospital, Emirati parents Ekaterina Sedaochzhay and Mansour Alharithi welcomed their first child into the world, named Mariam.

Apart from Mariam, the hospital delivered three babies to parents from Jordan, Syria and Yemen.

Emirati new mum Aysha Mohammad Al Kaabi was the first to give birth to a baby boy, delighting her husband Helal Salem Al Kaabi.

Five babies arrived in the early hours at NMC Hospital, Al Ain, while the NMC Royal Women’s Hospital at Abu Dhabi delivered three babies and NMC DIP Dubai and NMC Specialty Hospital Abu Dhabi delivered one baby each.
