ABU DHABI // Safety inspectors have confiscated more than 90 types of expired animal medicines from a veterinary pharmacy. The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority seized 55 litres of liquid drugs, 2,124 capsules and 120 kilograms of powder. The haul included antibiotics, vitamins and feed supplements. The owners of the pharmacy, which was not identified, were ordered to appear in court.
"It goes without saying that expired drugs cease to be effective medicinally," Mohamed al Reyaysa, the authority's director of communication, told WAM, the state news agency. "We call upon animal owners to carefully inspect the expiry dates on the veterinary drugs they buy." There are about 70 clinics, pharmacies and laboratories in the emirate that deal with animal health. During recent inspections, the authority collected samples from animal production farms, butcheries and poultry farms. All the samples were fit for human consumption.
