Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad will deliver an inspiring message of hope at a UAE conference - in her first major public appearance since receiving the prestigious accolade.
The Iraqi human rights activist, who was awarded the Nobel Laureate title earlier this month, has been announced as a key note speaker at the third annual Investing in the Future Conference (IIFMENA) in Sharjah, organisers The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF), announced on Monday.
Ms Murad made history as the first-ever Iraqi recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for her campaigning efforts against war-time sexual violence.
Ms Murad will share her own harrowing experiences of being held captive by the Islamic State for three months - and tell of how she has fought back from adversity to help inspire others.
Themed ‘Youth – Crisis Challenges and Development Opportunities’, the conference seeks to offer the young Iraqi Yazidi human rights activist and founder of Nadia's Initiative – dedicated to helping women and children victimised by genocide experience – a global platform to share her story with the MENA region’s youth.
Mariam Al Hammadi, Director of TBHF, said that It is an honour to be bringing a global role model to the event.
“We aim to communicate her inspiring message to innocent women and youth who are victims of war of crises, and show them that their determination and collective strength be key to transforming their sufferings and agony into triumph and a hope-filled future. Nadia is an example to everyone,” said Ms Al Hammadi.
The two-day conference, organized by TBHF, under the patronage of Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, and his wife, Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA), will take place on October 24 and 25 in Sharjah.

Sinopharm vaccine explained
The Sinopharm vaccine was created using techniques that have been around for decades.
“This is an inactivated vaccine. Simply what it means is that the virus is taken, cultured and inactivated," said Dr Nawal Al Kaabi, chair of the UAE's National Covid-19 Clinical Management Committee.
"What is left is a skeleton of the virus so it looks like a virus, but it is not live."
This is then injected into the body.
"The body will recognise it and form antibodies but because it is inactive, we will need more than one dose. The body will not develop immunity with one dose," she said.
"You have to be exposed more than one time to what we call the antigen."
The vaccine should offer protection for at least months, but no one knows how long beyond that.
Dr Al Kaabi said early vaccine volunteers in China were given shots last spring and still have antibodies today.
“Since it is inactivated, it will not last forever," she said.
