DUBAI // Two Nigerian armed robbers stole Dh900,000 from security guards by attacking them with a stun gun, the Criminal Court has heard.
The theft from two Transguard employees, happened on October 13 last year as they entered the Lulu Village in the Al Muhaisnah area to refill ATMs.
“One of the defendants punched me several times and the other assaulted my colleague with a taser gun, then took away two bags we were carrying and fled in a car that was waiting for them,” said one of the victims, W K, 28, from Uganda.
A man who witnessed the robbery noted the number plate of the getaway car, which led police to the residence of the two Nigerian defendants, A J, 25, and J K, 23.
“They resisted arrest but we controlled them eventually and took them into custody,” said police lieutenant M A, 23.
“During investigations they confessed to carrying out the robbery but said that a third man had planned the whole thing and a fourth was responsible for driving the getaway car.”
The men had used some of their share of the money to buy luxury goods and transferred the rest to their families.
Records showed that the car used in the robbery was found abandoned in one of the industrial areas of Dubai. It contained the two stolen bags, which had been emptied of their contents, two black masks and the taser gun.
A forensics lab report said the taser was capable of delivering a 10,000-volt electric shock.
In court on Thursday, both of the defendants confessed to charges of armed robbery and possessing a taser gun.
“We did take the money but it was not in our intention to do so,” A J told the judge.
The date for the next hearing was set for March 20.

Short-term let permits explained
Homeowners and tenants are allowed to list their properties for rental by registering through the Dubai Tourism website to obtain a permit.
Tenants also require a letter of no objection from their landlord before being allowed to list the property.
There is a cost of Dh1,590 before starting the process, with an additional licence fee of Dh300 per bedroom being rented in your home for the duration of the rental, which ranges from three months to a year.
Anyone hoping to list a property for rental must also provide a copy of their title deeds and Ejari, as well as their Emirates ID.
