As we enjoy the long weekend of Al Hijri New Year and mark an important date in the Muslim calendar, the next national holiday is only weeks away.
Depending on the calendar and the position of the moon, there could be a four-day weekend at the end of November and into December.
Thursday, November 30, is Commemoration Day, when the country remembers the Emirati servicemen that have died in conflict, along with accidents and training.

In recent years, residents haven’t received Commemoration Day as a holiday.
However, this year, the birthday of Prophet Mohammed might fall on the same day. His birthday is celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi Al Awwal. This depends on the Arabic calendar and moon sighting.
So, if Commemoration Day and Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday, fall on the same day, then Thursday, November 30 might be declared as a holiday.
As for UAE National Day, which falls on December 2 every year - a Saturday this year - then December 3 might be granted as a holiday.
Most school calendars have marked Sunday, December 3, as a holiday - with a condition of authorities announcing the day off.
A series of major events are planned around the first weekend of December, including the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby 7s, the National Day Parade and fireworks across the Emirates.
UAE residents might take advantage of this long weekend and plan a staycation or jet off for a break.

If you’re going to go grey, a great style, well-cared for hair (in a sleek, classy style, like a bob), and a young spirit and attitude go a long way, says Maria Dowling, founder of the Maria Dowling Salon in Dubai.
It’s easier to go grey from a lighter colour, so you may want to do that first. And this is the time to try a shorter style, she advises. Then a stylist can introduce highlights, start lightening up the roots, and let it fade out. Once it’s entirely grey, a purple shampoo will prevent yellowing.
“Get professional help – there’s no other way to go around it,” she says. “And don’t just let it grow out because that looks really bad. Put effort into it: properly condition, straighten, get regular trims, make sure it’s glossy.”

SUNDERLAND 2002-03
No one has ended a Premier League season quite like Sunderland. They lost each of their final 15 games, taking no points after January. They ended up with 19 in total, sacking managers Peter Reid and Howard Wilkinson and losing 3-1 to Charlton when they scored three own goals in eight minutes.
SUNDERLAND 2005-06
Until Derby came along, Sunderland’s total of 15 points was the Premier League’s record low. They made it until May and their final home game before winning at the Stadium of Light while they lost a joint record 29 of their 38 league games.
HUDDERSFIELD 2018-19
Joined Derby as the only team to be relegated in March. No striker scored until January, while only two players got more assists than goalkeeper Jonas Lossl. The mid-season appointment Jan Siewert was to end his time as Huddersfield manager with a 5.3 per cent win rate.
ASTON VILLA 2015-16
Perhaps the most inexplicably bad season, considering they signed Idrissa Gueye and Adama Traore and still only got 17 points. Villa won their first league game, but none of the next 19. They ended an abominable campaign by taking one point from the last 39 available.
FULHAM 2018-19
Terrible in different ways. Fulham’s total of 26 points is not among the lowest ever but they contrived to get relegated after spending over £100 million (Dh457m) in the transfer market. Much of it went on defenders but they only kept two clean sheets in their first 33 games.
