A Omani man who stole more than Dh10m in shares from his aunt has been sentenced to three years in prison.
The defendant, 37, along with a female accomplice who remains at large, forged the victim’s signature to transfer ownership of the stock before selling it on.
Two other men, a Jordanian, 36, and an Emirati, 67, were cleared of altering official documents related to the stock.
The aunt, a 72-year-old widow, had been given the shares following her husband’s death.
“Before he died he registered them under my name and had his nephew, the 67-year-old accused, handle them,” she told Dubai Criminal Court.
“My husband’s nephew came to my place and asked me for my official identification documents. I gave them to him.
“Following that, I came to know that the stocks were sold. I don't know any more details.”
The defendant was jailed and ordered to be deported after completing his sentence.

The rules on fostering in the UAE

- not have been convicted of offences or crimes involving moral turpitude
