National Day traffic restrictions announced for Abu Dhabi Corniche

ABU DHABI // All motorists who want to head towards the Breakwater on National Day will have to head to the roundabout near the fruit and vegetable market at Mina Zayed to turn around.

On Tuesday, from 5pm onwards, the Corniche will be the venue for the annual parade, the Safety and Solutions Committee announced on Sunday.

Left turns and U-turns will not be allowed at junctions on the Corniche during this time.

Once vehicles reach the Breakwater area, they will have to drive around Marina Mall and then head towards the Bateen area.

The public and road users are being urged to co-operate with safety officials, take extra care on the road and adhere to all traffic rules and regulations.

Drivers participating in the parade are reminded to respect pedestrians’ safety.

Last month, Abu Dhabi Police announced that a traffic plan was put in place to ease congestion for National Day.

A comprehensive plan was prepared by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, including increasing the number of police patrols across the emirate.

The patrols will watch for speeding motorists, for any violations to the guidelines on vehicle decorations, and for any uncivilised behaviour.

No marches would be allowed to be organised except for the official one, said Brig Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, director general of the Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior.

He said the ministry encourages the public to celebrate the event in a civilised manner, without writing indecent comments, and erecting flags on vehicles in a place that poses a danger to the safety of drivers or other people.

Stickers should be placed on the sides of vehicles, and car window tints must not exceed the 30 per cent limit.

Motorists must not carry more than the permitted number of passengers, Brig Al Zaabi said, and no passengers should stick their heads out of windows or the sunroofs of their vehicles.

Also on the list of dont’s are blocking traffic, modifying engines, obscuring number plates and use of spray paint.

Penalties for motorists range between having their car impounded and 12 black points on their driving licence and fines of up to Dh3,000.

Real estate tokenisation project

Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.

The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.

Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
