Multiple accidents slow traffic across Dubai amid heavy rain

ABU DHABI // Residents woke up to a deluge of rain as puddles gathered in the street and accidents slowed morning traffic on Tuesday.

Multiple accidents were reported in Dubai as police warned motorists against speeding in rainy conditions to avoid aquaplaning.

The Roads and Transport Authority also reminded motorists not to use heavy, sudden brakes.

Two accidents on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road lead to severe delays said to extend back into Ajman, with @TrafficDXB recommending Emirates Road as an alternative route.

One of the accidents took place near Arabian Ranches towards Sharjah with congestion also being caused in the opposite direction due to rubbernecking.

The other accident was reported near the Al Khail / Al Fay Road interchange towards AbuDhabi.

An accident on Umm Suqeim Street, after Miracle Gardens towards Al Khail flyover, also caused delays.

Tailbacks on Dubai-Al Ain Road were caused by an accident after Nad Al Sheba towards Ras Al Khor.

Another accident was reported on Emirates Road on the Maliha Road exit into Dubai causing tailbacks up until Sharjah — Dhaid Road.

On Sheikh Zayed Road, heavy traffic was reported from Internet City to Al Barsha 1, in the direction of World Trade Centre.

An accident just after Garhoud Bridge towards Abu Dhabi added congestion to rush hour which was already exacerbated by rain.

Another accident on the motorway took place before the last flyover towards Abu Dhabi.

Dubai Police reported an accident involving multiple vehicles after Mirdif City Centre bridge towards Sharjah.

In the capital, an accident on the Abu Dhabi — Al Ain Truck Road caused delays, which remained even after being cleared by police.

Meanwhile forecasters have warned against towering clouds and thundery rain across the country with strong winds expected throughout the day.

Unstable weather is expected to last through Wednesday but will stabilise by Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to drop significantly, varying from 17°C to 23°C along coast, 19°C to 27°C inland and 15°C to 19°C in the mountains.

The lowest temperature recorded across the country on Tuesday was 7.2°C in Merbeh Mountains in Ras Al Khaimah at 5am.

Conditions in the Sea of Oman and Arabian Gulf will be very rough.

Common OCD symptoms and how they manifest

Checking: the obsession or thoughts focus on some harm coming from things not being as they should, which usually centre around the theme of safety. For example, the obsession is “the building will burn down”, therefore the compulsion is checking that the oven is switched off.

Contamination: the obsession is focused on the presence of germs, dirt or harmful bacteria and how this will impact the person and/or their loved ones. For example, the obsession is “the floor is dirty; me and my family will get sick and die”, the compulsion is repetitive cleaning.

Orderliness: the obsession is a fear of sitting with uncomfortable feelings, or to prevent harm coming to oneself or others. Objectively there appears to be no logical link between the obsession and compulsion. For example,” I won’t feel right if the jars aren’t lined up” or “harm will come to my family if I don’t line up all the jars”, so the compulsion is therefore lining up the jars.

Intrusive thoughts: the intrusive thought is usually highly distressing and repetitive. Common examples may include thoughts of perpetrating violence towards others, harming others, or questions over one’s character or deeds, usually in conflict with the person’s true values. An example would be: “I think I might hurt my family”, which in turn leads to the compulsion of avoiding social gatherings.

Hoarding: the intrusive thought is the overvaluing of objects or possessions, while the compulsion is stashing or hoarding these items and refusing to let them go. For example, “this newspaper may come in useful one day”, therefore, the compulsion is hoarding newspapers instead of discarding them the next day.
