Philanthropists have paid for more than 1,000 pilgrims to travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah in the past three years.
Visitors from the UAE were able to complete the pilgrimage as a part of the Lifetime Umrah Scheme organised by the Dar Al Ber Society.
The travellers were provided with pilgrimage clothing, holy water, meals, travel and accommodation during their stay.
Mohamed Suhail Al Muhairi, Head of the Social Service Sector at Dar Al Ber, which facilitates the trips, said the trip includes four days in Mecca and three in Medina.
Last year the scheme took a total of 338 pilgrims spread across four separate trips in March, May, June and December.
To date, Dar Al Ber has organised 12 trips that have costs a total of Dhs1,205,711.
“The itinerary also includes visits to the Holy Lands, spanning Mount Arafat, Mina, and Muzdalifah in Mecca, as well as a visit to the historical Quba Mosque and Jannat al-Baqi’ Cemetery in Medina,” said Al Muhairi.
The scheme, which runs with the help of donations, has been attracting the attention of local philanthropists in the country, according to Hisham Al Zahrani, Deputy Head of the Social Service Sector, Dar Al Ber.
