SHARJAH // A 12-year-old boy who went missing from his family home has been found at his mother’s home, police said.
The boy, who holds a Romanian passport, was reunited with his family around midnight Thursday.
The child went missing from his home in Abu Shagara around noon Thursday. His father notified officers at Al Gharb police station.
First lieutenant Ahmad Al Hammadi, head of press and publishing at Sharjah Police, said they launched a city-wide search after the father had contacted them.
“The boy was missing, and [his father] could not communicate with him, so we moved immediately.”
Lieut Al Hammadi said the reason the boy ran away from his father’s house in Abu Shagara area, was due to a dispute between his parents.
“We searched for him everywhere, we did not leave a place out until we reached his mother’s house.”
While the boy was found in good psychological state at his mother’s home, such cases are followed up by concerned parties, said Leiut Al Hammadi.
“If there is a big dispute between the parents, the social support cente in Sharjah police interferes, but if there has been a divorce, the specialized court follows up,” he said.
It was unclear if the boy’s parents have been divorced or only live in separate houses.
“Until now we don’t know if there is a need for interference, because he was only found last night,” Leiut Al Hammadi added.
