A minibus driver was killed after being struck by a car as he attempted to change a burst tyre on a busy Dubai highway.

The minibus - which is believed to have been carrying a group of five employees of a security services firm in Jebel Ali - came to a halt on Sheikh Zayed Road on Sunday evening.

The victim was changing the tyre in the middle of the highway as two of his passengers stood near to him to alert other motorists of the upcoming hazard when a Lexus car crashed into the side of the minibus, hitting all three men.

The driver was rushed to Rashid Hospital, along with the other two men, where he was pronounced dead.

One of the men was seriously hurt, with the other receiving minor injuries.

“The guards said that they advised the driver against changing the tyre in the middle of the road but he insisted on doing so, therefore two of them stepped out of the bus to wave at other cars and warn them,” said the source.

“The driver of the Lexus used his lights to warn the guards to stay out of the way and tried to avoid a crash but could not and rammed into the bus from the side.”
