Nine men broke into a house, robbed a woman and then two took turns raping her, Dubai Criminal Court was told.
On May 6 last year, the Pakistani woman, 34, was in a villa she shared with other tenants in Al Muraqqabat when a group of men stormed into her room.
She said most of the masked men were armed with knives and they demanded she give them all her money and valuables.
“As they started looking through my stuff, one of them dragged me near the bathroom and raped me while the door was open,” she said.
A few minutes later, another man raped her before they all ran away.
"I immediately rushed out of my room and saw the other tenants. They were all scared. I asked them if they were robbed and they said yes. I asked the women if any of them were raped, they all said no." The woman asked one of her neighbours for a mobile phone and called police.
She described one of the unmasked defendants to police who tracked him down and arrested him.
During questioning, the man told police where to find the remaining eight defendants. A tenth man is still at large.
The defendants, five Emiratis and four Pakistanis, aged between 20 and 37, were charged with armed robbery. One Emirati and one Pakistani defendant were charged with rape.
In court, the 29-year-old Emirati admitted to the robbery charge but denied raping the woman. He said that the at-large accused was the one who raped the woman.
The other seven defendants denied an armed robbery charge.
The next hearing is scheduled for July 7.
