You can be forgiven for not gleefully skipping into a police station as entering the building often means you are either sorting out official documentation or reporting a crime.
But Dubai Police have found a way to improve the mood of anyone looking to the skies for strength.
On Wednesday police announced plans to install massive smiley face decals on the ceilings of all police stations in a bid to promote happiness among visitors.
The face can already be seen – from land and sky - on the glass dome of Al Muraqqabat Police Station.
“As per the directives of Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief, Maj Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, to create more positive and happy vibes, we came up with the idea of drawing a gigantic smile face on the top of Al Muraqqabat police Station,” said the director of the station, Brig Ali Ghanim.
“The smiley face can be seen by passengers in helicopters and planes, which will promote the power of positivity and happiness among them. Dubai is a city the welcomes everyone. It is the city of happiness, hope and forgiveness,” he said.
Dubai aims to become the world’s happiest city by 2021 and Brig Ghanim says police will have a large part to play in achieving that goal.
“Our plan to achieve this target by enhancing security, resident’s trust in police, and pleasing the public through providing several services,” he said.
The beaming yellow face will be placed on top of all police stations and government institutions, according to Awatef Al Suwaidi, director of Smart Applications at Dubai Police.
“Every staff members and clients admired the idea of drawing a smiley face on the top of Al Muraqqabat police station. One of our main objectives is to promote happiness among community members and visitors,” she said.
