A man who endangered the life of a motorist after trying to throw a lit firework into his car has lost an appeal against his jail term.
The Emirati man, 27, and a compatriot, 34, were sentenced to three months in prison over the reckless act in Hessa Street, Dubai.
An Indian salesman, 27, was stopped at a set of traffic lights when the offenders demanded he get out of his car.
The victim said one of the men made threats against him before attempting to hurl the firework into his vehicle.
“He threatened to beat me up if I didn’t, then tried to throw fireworks in my car after lighting them up,” the victim said.
He drove off before the men were able to throw the firework at his vehicle.
The incident took place on June 6, 2017.
No motive for the attack was disclosed in court records.
A driver who was stopped for the traffic lights near to the victim called police.
“I heard a loud bang, I don’t know if it was a gun shot but I figured it was something dangerous so I called the police,” said the 42-year-old project manager.
Police tracked down the two defendants using the car plate number given to them by the victim.
Police found fireworks and tear gas in the car of one of the two men.
Both defendants denied charges of endangering lives, issuing threats and possessing fireworks at Dubai Criminal Court in November 2017, but both convicted and sentenced to three months in jail.
The younger defendant lodged an appeal but the sentence has been upheld.

His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Over the course of his life, he published more than 30 poetry collections and books of prose, with his work translated into more than 20 languages. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States. He was later buried in Ramallah where a shrine was erected in his honour.
