A technician who stabbed his supervisor to death has lost an appeal against his life sentence.
The Pakistani worker locked himself in a room at a labour accommodation in Jebel Ali with the victim and a colleague before launching a frenzied attack.
The 25-year-old stabbed the Indian supervisor with a knife he had concealed in his clothing before attacking the other man with the bladed weapon when he tried to intervene.
The second victim – whose age and nationality were not disclosed in court records – survived the violent assault.
The incident took place on August 17, 2017.
“After he locked the door, he took out a knife he was hiding under his clothes and stabbed the supervisor to death,” said the surviving victim.
“When I tried to stop him, he stabbed me too.”
Police were called and found the murder weapon tossed on the floor by the guilty party, who was being restrained by fellow workers.
The Pakistani man's fingerprints were found on the bloodied knife.
A medical report found the deceased suffered fatal wounds to his heart, liver and lungs.
During police questioning, his attacker said the deceased had made threats against him and had refused to sign his resignation letter that would allow him to return home.
In both criminal and appeal courts, the defendant denied stabbing the victim to death and assaulting the second man.
He was convicted of premeditated murder and attempted murder charges and sentenced to life in prison, carrying a maximum term of 25 years.
He lodged an appeal against his sentence, which was rejected at Dubai Appeals Court.

Retail gloom
Online grocer Ocado revealed retail sales fell 5.7 per cen in its first quarter as customers switched back to pre-pandemic shopping patterns.
It was a tough comparison from a year earlier, when the UK was in lockdown, but on a two-year basis its retail division, a joint venture with Marks&Spencer, rose 31.7 per cent over the quarter.
The group added that a 15 per cent drop in customer basket size offset an 11.6. per cent rise in the number of customer transactions.

Why your domicile status is important
Your UK residence status is assessed using the statutory residence test. While your residence status – ie where you live - is assessed every year, your domicile status is assessed over your lifetime.
Your domicile of origin generally comes from your parents and if your parents were not married, then it is decided by your father. Your domicile is generally the country your father considered his permanent home when you were born.
UK residents who have their permanent home ("domicile") outside the UK may not have to pay UK tax on foreign income. For example, they do not pay tax on foreign income or gains if they are less than £2,000 in the tax year and do not transfer that gain to a UK bank account.
A UK-domiciled person, however, is liable for UK tax on their worldwide income and gains when they are resident in the UK.
