Man who molested woman in Dubai on National Day is jailed

DUBAI // A 35-year-old man who molested a woman during National Day celebrations last year has been sentenced to three months in jail.

Malaysian tourist N S, 19, was watching celebrations at Dubai Mall with her friend when she felt Pakistani S L pressing his body against her back while pretending that he was watching the festivities.

The teenage tourist told prosecutors that she was standing near Souq Al Bahar at 6pm when she felt S L rubbing against her.

“I was shocked and afraid. I tried to move away and leave but he blocked my way with his body then left quickly.”

Briton S K, 65, witnessed the incident. She said it was not crowded and found it odd when the defendant stood so close to the girl.

“I [later] noticed the victim crying. I asked her what happened and she told me that S L had pressed his body against her back and molested her,” the housewife said.

At Dubai Criminal Court in April, the Pakistani denied the charge.

He has now been convicted and will be deported after serving his term.
