A man who made a failed bid to escape a police station will be kept locked up for three months.
The 27-year-old engineer was being held in a fenced-off detention room at Al Muraqqabat Police Station, in Dubai, in connection with a string of thefts when he tried to make his exit.
The Egyptian managed to climb the fence only to fall on his way out of the room, alerting a police officer to his plan.
The defendant pushed the Yemeni officer, 52, to the ground as he tried to make his bid for freedom.
“He tried to run out of the room but I caught him,” said the officer.
“Then he grabbed my right arm and twisted it and pushed me to the wall, so I fell.”
The defendant headed to the prosecutions office, only to find the door locked, eventually climbing back into the detention area when he was unable to find a way out.
A police backup team was called into the station and the man was brought under control.
The ceiling was damaged during his escape attempt, court records stated.
The incident took place at 5.30am on May 31.
At Dubai Criminal Court earlier this month, the accused denied charges of resisting police officers and damaging property.
However, he was convicted of the charges and sentenced to three months in prison to be followed by deportation.
