AJMAN // A man stabbed his father-in-law to death because he was meddling in his marriage, police say.
NM, 30, from Pakistan, was arrested six hours after allegedly murdering his divorced wife's father in Ajman's Sawan area, said Lt Col Abdullah Saif al Matroushi, the Director of the CID at Ajman Police.
"We received a call about a dead body in Sawan area," he said. "Our team moved to the scene and found the body of an old man lying in a pool of blood with several stab wounds and a knife on his side."
The CID interrogated many of the victim's family members.
"The family members told us the deceased had told his daughter to leave her marriage," Col Matroushi said.
"The daughter asked for divorce a few months ago and the accused has been trying to win her back. He put all the blame on his father-in-law and was once heard saying that only when the father is dead would he be able to lead a successful married life."
Police learnt that NM was planning to flee the country after the killing. He was arrested on the way to Sharjah Airport.
The accused told police he still loved his wife but was afraid to return to her because of her father.
The police have referred the case to public prosecution and NM is being held at Ajman Police headquarters.
