DUBAI // A jobless Emirati spent Dh138,000 on a credit card he took out in another man’s name after forging his passport and salary certificate, a court was told.
In March last year the Emirati soldier who was targeted said he received a call from RAK Bank about the credit card.
“They told me that I got a credit card with a Dh100,000 limit so I visited the bank and was shown the documents, a passport and a salary certificate,” said the 44-year-old.
“I told them that the name is mine but the picture is not, then reported the matter to police.”
A bank employee, 29, said he met the credit card applicant near Deira City Centre mall in Dubai, where he signed the application form and handed over the documents.
“I submitted the application then was informed that the defendant had provided forged documents,” the Indian employee said.
The court was shown a report confirming alterations had been made to the soldier’s passport, salary certificate and the application forms.
The accused, 34, appeared at Dubai Criminal Court charged with forgery, use of forged documents and fraudulently obtaining a credit card.
He denied all charges and the next hearing was scheduled for July 6.
