A trickster who lured a man to an address in Dubai with the promise of a massage but then stole Dh100,000 has been jailed for six months.
The Emirati victim was directed to a property in Al Barsha which he believed to be a massage centre, after making an online booking.
But when he entered the room, a Nigerian woman jumped on top of him, brandished a knife and threatened to kill him.
The woman, 33, was convicted at Dubai Criminal Court of the charges of issuing death threats, confinement, theft, using a forged passport and providing police with three different names.
A second female defendant, 32, also from Nigeria, was acquitted by the court.
The incident took place in April last year.
“I was contacted by a woman who gave me directions to the location in Al Barsha area, which she said was the massaging centre,” the man said.
He told prosecutors he handed over Dh100,000 in cash after his life was threatened.
Police arrested the two women a few days later at a hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Prosecutors said the 33-year-old gave police a forged passport with a fake name.
During questioning, she then gave another name and then, during prosecution questioning, she gave a third name.
The convicted woman will be deported after serving her sentence.
She has two weeks to appeal the verdict.
