A man was critically injured in a gas cylinder explosion in Sharjah on Monday.

The explosion occurred at 4.45am in Al Butaina when a 43-year-old Nigerian man tried to connect his oven to the gas cylinder.

Neighbours called police after they heard a loud explosion.

The man who reported the incident told the operations room that the building shook, with some thinking it was an earthquake.
Police said the explosion caused the kitchen wall and other items to collapse on the man's head.
He was found unconscious under the wreckage and was rushed to Al Kuwaiti hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit and is still in critical condition.
