A man was cleared of smuggling a tonne of amphetamines hidden inside barrels of animal guts into the country.
The 26-year-old Syrian was arrested on April 25 this year when he was stopped for not having the correct documentation to import a shipment of animal intestines.
A customs inspector said they found a large number of plastic bags hidden among the animal offal after kicking the barrels.
Prosecutors said more than five million tablets of the drugs weighing 1,210kg were found inside the plastic bags.
At court in August, the man denied a charge of importing drugs to sell and on Tuesday Dubai Criminal Court acquitted him.

While the taste of beans and freshness of roast is paramount to the specialty coffee scene, so is sustainability and workers’ rights.
The bulk of genuine specialty coffee companies aim to improve on these elements in every stage of production via direct relationships with farmers.
