A jobless Emirati who forged a law degree was caught out after a university confirmed the course he claimed to have passed didn't exist, a court heard.
The 39-year-old submitted the degree, which he said he had obtained from Ain Shams University in Egypt during a distance learning course in 2015, to the UAE's Ministry of Education in June of last year.
He was reported to police a month later when it was found the certificate had been forged.
"When he submitted his degree, we contacted the Egyptian embassy which in its response said that the degree was fake," said a legal searcher at the MoE.
He said they called Al Qusais police station and reported the defendant.
It was not disclosed in records If the man had practiced law in the country since he obtained the degree three years ago.
An official letter from the university's deputy head of students and educational affairs said that the university does not offer a distance learning program.
The accused was charged with forging an official document with the help of an unknown man and of using the forged document.
He denied the charges at Dubai Criminal Court.
The case will be back in court on April 11.
