AJMAN // The body of an Arab man in his thirties has been recovered from the Arabian Gulf.
Beachgoers on the Ajman corniche spotted the body in the water on Friday and called police, said Brigadier Saleh Al Matrooshi, the director general of Ajman Civil Defence.
"Our rescue teams hurried to the scene and pulled out the body," said Brig Al Matrooshi.
"We still don't know if this was a drowning or suicide case but the police investigators are finding out and the body is with the police forensics."
Brig Al Matrooshi has appealed to beachgoers to exercise extra caution when they go out to swim during the summer as the season is a notorious time for drownings.
Meanwhile, a five-year-old girl died in Ajman on Friday after a water heater exploded as she stood in the bathroom of her home.
The girl, identified only as A M, was taken to Ajman's Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Hospital emergency department by her family but they were told that the girl died before reaching the hospital.
Her funeral prayers were conducted on Friday night in Sheikh Zayed Ajman mosque and she was then buried in the neighbouring Ajman graveyard.
