A lawyer slashed a woman’s face with a bottle after accusing her of having an affair with her husband.
The Ukrainian lawyer, 26, confronted the victim about her suspicions after a New Year’s party this year. The lawyer and her husband arrived at the victim’s flat in Al Barsha about 4am.
“She asked to talk to me privately and started questioning me if I had an affair with her husband,” said the victim, a 29-year-old make-up artist. “I told her it’s not true and she then walked towards her husband and asked him the same, and he told her it was not true.”
The lawyer was drunk and became offensive, using foul language, then hit the victim in the face with the bottle.
“The bottle broke due to the strong blow and caused me a deep cut,” she said. “I started bleeding heavily while she walked away quietly as if nothing happened.”
The victim’s husband, 32, saw the lawyer hailing a cab outside their building as he was taking his wife to hospital.
“I told the driver, who saw my bleeding wife, that his passenger caused this injury and asked him not to take her,” he said. “So he didn’t and police arrived shortly after.”
A medical report showed the cut left the woman with a disfigurement that required reconstructive surgery.
In court last August, the lawyer said she could not remember what happened.
“I can’t recall what happened,” she said. “I was out of my senses and a friend told me what I did and what I said. I came to Dubai on a visit to celebrate the New Year and I just want to go home.”
Yesterday, she was convicted of physical assault, issuing insults and drinking alcohol without a licence. She was fined Dh1,000 and sentenced to three months in jail, after which she will be deported.

Still, though, thanks to Asad Shafiq and Sarfraz Ahmed, it is possible.
