ABU DHABI // A federal law on Plant Genetic Resources has been be sent back to the committee after the Environment Minister objected to multiple amendments.
Dr Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, claimed the report presented to the council by the FNC's environment committee was "significantly different" from a version his ministry had been sent on Thursday afternoon.
Members insisted the changes were only superficial tweaks.
Dr Bin Fahad rejected a proposed change to the title of the law.
Members wanted the law to be called the "Federal law on protection of Plant Genetic Resources", instead of just "Federal law on Plant Genetic Resources". Dr Bin Fahad said that would change the whole meaning of the law.
However a majority of members favoured the name change.
After a break and private discussion between the minister and council members, the debate was rescheduled to allow further meetings between the committee and Dr Bin Fahad.
