Labourer jailed for stabbing man during drunken fight

DUBAI // A carpenter who stabbed a colleague during a drunken argument has been jailed for three months.

Indian P A, 31, started fighting with compatriot P S, 42, a lorry driver, on July 12 after a drinking session at their accommodation in Al Muhaisnah.

“I had known him for about six months and there were absolutely no problems between us,” said the driver.

“We had a chat and then we started arguing. I was surprised when he grabbed a knife and stabbed me in the chest.”

He pushed his attacker to the floor but the carpenter got back up and tried to stab him again. He missed his chest but struck the driver’s hand instead.

Two colleagues arrived and broke up the fight before calling police.

The driver was in hospital for a month due to the severity of his injuries.

The carpenter denied a charge of attempted murder at Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday.

But he was convicted and sentenced to three months in jail plus a Dh2,000 fine.

He will be deported after serving his prison term.
