Katy Perry has rung in the New Year in Abu Dhabi in roaring fashion.
The US pop star bought her exuberant brand of pop to Yas Island’s Du Arena with a slick and fast moving set.
With an eye shaped LED screens projecting intergalactic visuals, Perry – clad in a red sequenced dress that resembled a space-aged Little Red Riding Hood - strolled on to the T shaped stage to the pensive opener Witness.
Despite all the colourful costumes, which ranged from Matrix-like leather to 60's style prom queen, Perry’s key calling card is that powerful set of pipes that’s tailor made for arena crowds.
"Are you ready to celebrate the new year?" she asked to the roar of the crowd. "Are you ready to celebrate new beginnings?"
The hits flowed with the emphatic pop of Dark Horse – which had Perry engaging in some slick choreography with half a dozen dancers – and the latest chart topper Chained to the Rhythm.
The latter saw the stage opening up to reveal to dancers appearing with televisions as crowns.
It is a all a bit bonkers off course, but it's a lot of fun – something which Perry delivers in spades.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
