Dubai // A salesman who threatened to cut a woman’s throat if she did not kiss him has been jailed for three months.
The salesman, 33, fled after the incident and it was only several months later, when he turned up as a new employee at the gym where the woman worked, that he was arrested.
The Filipino defendant E A, denied threatening to kill and sexually assault a woman at the Dubai Criminal Court last November.
The 24-year-old Filipina victim, a marketing executive at a gym, said on December 21, 2012, she used the lift in her building and found the defendant inside. The lift stopped at her floor but he blocked her exit.
“He suddenly took out a blade and placed it on my neck,” said the woman. She recalled him asking her not to scream or he would kill her.
“He told me he wanted to kiss me on my lips and asked me to kiss him back,” she said.
She escaped and called police but the defendant had fled.
The case was closed but in April last year she said that the gym where she worked hired a new employee and when she saw him, she recognised it was the defendant.
The man was then arrested and sentenced at Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday.

Ziina users can donate to relief efforts in Beirut
Ziina users will be able to use the app to help relief efforts in Beirut, which has been left reeling after an August blast caused an estimated $15 billion in damage and left thousands homeless. Ziina has partnered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to raise money for the Lebanese capital, co-founder Faisal Toukan says. “As of October 1, the UNHCR has the first certified badge on Ziina and is automatically part of user's top friends' list during this campaign. Users can now donate any amount to the Beirut relief with two clicks. The money raised will go towards rebuilding houses for the families that were impacted by the explosion.”
