DUBAI // A man who used forged documents to obtain 12 Sim cards that cost Etisalat Dh1.273 million in lost revenue was jailed for three years at the Criminal Court today.
M Y, 23, a Pakistani expatriate, forged 12 residency visa copies, seven labour cards and 12 salary certificates and submitted 12 applications to Etisalat in January 2011.
Etisalat contacted the police after the manager of the company named on the salary certificates told them they had not been issued by his company, and must have been forged, an Etisalat accountant told the court.
M Y admitted forgery but denied causing the losses that resulted from the use of the Sim cards.
“I sold the Sim cards after obtaining them and those who bought them caused the money losses,” he told the court at an earlier hearing.
He will be deported after serving his jail term. The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days.
