Internet use should return to normal by Wednesday after services were disrupted due to a damaged underwater cable, the telecommunication provider du said yesterday.
Du admitted that customers across the region could be affected by a damaged subaquatic cable that occurred last Wednesday, with possible bandwidth degradation and longer connection times.
In a statement yesterday, it confirmed that about a third of its overall available internet capacity had been hit. "According to the cable operators, internet performance is expected to go back to more normal levels by March 30," du said.

The affected cable was the Flag-Falcon Cable System, operated by Reliance Globalcom Company. The fault was located at 30km to 45km from the Flag-Falcon Cable landing station in Dubai, du said.
"This has resulted in a degradation of internet services across the entire region including the UAE," the statement said. "Du would like to assure its customers that it has taken immediate action to ease the situation by re-routing its traffic over other available links."
Similar damage in the Mediterranean last April took a week to fix. Du said at the time that its internet service was not affected by that cable break because the company used that cable, Sea-ME-We 4, for only a small percentage of its internet bandwidth.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
